Our presence in Western Australia includes our Telfer Operations and our office in Perth.
Telfer Operations
There are currently in excess of 1,000 employees and contractors involved with the Telfer Operation. About 450km east-south-east of Port Hedland, in the Great Sandy Desert, Telfer reopened in July 2005 after a massive expansion project involving:
- Expansion of the existing open pit
- Development of a new major underground mining operation
- Construction of a new twin train concentrator designed to treat more than 17 million tonnes of ore a year
- Construction of a new gas-fired power station
- Construction of a 450km natural gas pipeline to the site
- Construction of new copper concentrate storage facility at Port Hedland
Prior to the shutdown the Telfer township was redeveloped into a fly-in/fly-out village for employees. Employees have access to a wide variety of sporting activities such as indoor cricket, touch rugby, mixed netball and social squash. Other amenities include a swimming pool, BBQ facilities, golf driving range, a general store, internet access and a tavern.

Our Perth office is home to our Exploration, Projects, Commercial and Legal teams. Our Exploration team is considered one of the most successful worldwide and operates from various other locations both nationally and internationally including Brisbane and Orange.
