Gosowong, Indonesia
Newcrest has an 82.5% ownership of PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals and its Gosowong operations on the island of Halmahera, Indonesia. The Kencana mine is the third mine to be developed by Newcrest at the Gosowong site and the first underground mine. Kencana is located 1 km south of the original Gosowong open pit mine. The mine employs nearly 1,250 people, mainly Indonesian nationals from the local area and across Indonesia. The joint venture operates the Gosowong Extension Project which has the potential to significantly extend the life of the Kencana mine.
